2021 Progress: Week 4

In the fourth week of our 2021 campaign, 50 volunteers again spent over 200 hours refurbishing over 200 bikes.  We also received 70 bike donations, bringing the total we have collected in 2021 to over 1700 bikes. We now have 841 bikes ready to give away on December 11, with just over 800 still to go. We should end up with over 1500 to give away, providing we have enough volunteer help to get through the remaining bikes, we don’t have to scrap too many,  and we can get the parts we need to fix them!

This year we have over 400 bikes suitable for preschoolers, and another 400 suitable for kindergarteners through second graders. We want to give every one of them away! If your organization knows of children who need bikes, please let us know! Go here to start the process: https://fb4kmaryland.org/apply/  If your child needs a bike, contact one of these organizations and ask them to work with us.

We can still use your help! Whatever your bicycle knowledge, join us at any of our shifts Mondays through Fridays from 3 PM to 6 PM, Saturdays from Noon to 6 PM, and extra shifts Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 PM. If you have a group that wants to come at a different time, let us know.  It’s a great community service, and you’ll help put smiles on hundreds of children’s faces this December! Massive thanks to The Howard Hughes Corporation for donating the 13000 square feet of space we’re using this year to refurbish bikes. We expect to use every square inch of it!
